Sadly, the air duct cleaning industry is full of tricksters, scammers and some doggone dirt bags. Here is a list of three common tricks companies are using followed by a little more detail on each:
- Unrealistically Low Pricing ($49, $89, even $199)
- Offering Furnace Cleaning As An Additional Charge (Not included.)
- Annual Air Duct Cleaning Recommendation
Unrealistically Low Pricing ($49, $89, even $199): There is no way around it, companies offering these unrealistically low prices are operating “Bait & Switch” scams. They use the low introductory pricing to get their foot in your door only to begin beating you up (figuratively in most cases) with their aggressive sales tactics. When the dust settles and you haven’t found the courage to kick these bums out, the “duct cleaning” you’ll receive is shoddy at best. These companies which start with “$89 Whole House Specials” have only one goal and that is to get as much money out of you as possible. Avoid these companies at all cost!
Offering Furnace Cleaning As An Additional Charge: This sounds like a good idea if you’re looking to save a couple of bucks on your air duct cleaning. In reality though all you are doing is decreasing the value of your duct cleaning. By excluding your furnace from the cleaning process you will most likely quickly recontaminate your cleaned air ducts with the dust build up inside your furnace. After all your furnace was the original driving force that caused your air ducts needing to be cleaned in the first place. That said, there is that rare occasion when you are performing the air duct cleaning as a company is replacing your furnace on the same day, then excluding a furnace cleaning for the work makes sense.
Annual Air Duct Cleaning Recommendation: If only that were true. As an air duct cleaning company we would love to schedule your duct cleaning on a yearly basis. The truth is, when done properly, your duct cleaning should last anywhere between three and five year. Three years if you have kids or pets with a lot of in/out activity. Five years if you are low key without a lot of activity in and out of your home. Of course, if any major remodel or dust event occurs inside your home before the recommended time, air duct cleaning is a good idea.
